Three tournaments at Chocfest, Newcastle, and the Ostroda Winter Festival - Feb 1, 2017

Three Fight Night Combat tournaments took place last weekend on two different continents, all worth 250 ranking points to the winners.

In Poland, the Ostroda Winter Juggling Festival hosted a combat tournament for the first time, and 20 jugglers took part. The top ranked Polish juggler, Michał Kozak, was seeded first after going unbeaten in qualifications, and made it to the final without losing a single point in his first two knockout matches.

However, he was beaten in the final by first time tournament winner Amadeusz Kołak. So far Amadeusz's best result was third place at Lublin 2016, losing to Wes Peden in the semi-final, so he will be one of the favourites again in Lublin again this year.

In the UK, top British combat rivals Jon Peat and Brook Roberts took part in the Chocfest 2017 combat tournament, along with 10 other jugglers.

Brook was eliminated in the round of 8 by two time fight night champion Dan Wood (Durham 2014, Leeds 2015). Dan was attempting to win Chocfest on his fourth attempt, having come 4th, 2nd and 3rd over the last three years. He was thwarted in the final by Jon Peat, who now leads the Jon vs Dan head-to-head 6 wins to 2.

Finally, Julius Preu organised the first ever Fight Night at the Newcastle Juggling Convention. He also won the tournament, beating Joe Fisher 7-4 in the final. Byron Hutton, who won the only previous Australian Fight Night Combat tournament (Melbourne 2014), came third, following up on his third place finish at the French Juggling Convention last year.

As it's the start of the year, all the winning players are doing well in the 2017 Race Rankings so far, though all lag behind Joe Showers due to him winning the biggest tournament so far.
